CONGRATULATIONS

Way to go Carrie Scheet. This is an email I received from a Vocational Rehabilitation consultant. Darcy,

Carrie was extremely professional and informative. The client and his mother told me, after she left, that she helped them feel at ease about the process. This client is very nervous about starting his new job and after meeting with Carrie is excited to start. She is such a pleasure to work with, and I greatly appreciate that she is constantly keeping me up to date on my clients. I wanted to let you know how much I like working with her due to all of these exceptional qualities. She truly goes above and beyond for my clients, and I am so grateful for all of her work!
Sincerely,
Natasha D. Adamson, M.S., C.R.C
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
& Assistive Technology Specialist

Thank you Carrie for all the hard work and dedication to Pride.

VACATION/PTO HOURS

You cannot carry over more than 240 hours vacation/PTO hours from one fiscal year to the next fiscal year. At the end of the fiscal year you will lose any hours in excess of 240. It is your responsibility to check the number of hours you have on your remittance advice (pay stub). If you are not sure, you may check with the Business Office. You should check regularly, since leave must be approved by your team leader. Don’t wait until the end of the fiscal year!

MISCELLANEOUS.

An anonymous letter was addressed to Pride Administration from a team member working in one of the residential setting. Any anonymous letter or call to 555 is responded to in the AWhat=s Happening@. The letter referred to medication errors and consistency in programming.

When a medication error occurs, team members are instructed to follow a protocol for reporting errors per instruction taught in the medication practicum. All medication errors are reviewed by Pride=s internal Risk Management Committee which consists of Tony Baker, RSA; Shantell Meidinger, RSA; Val Scalzo, QAA; Lori Sitter, VSA; Susan Gernez, YSA; Susan Owens, LPN and Kay Hanson, LPN. After the review, a plan of action is developed in an attempt to prevent future errors. The Team Leader reviews the plan of action with the team member who is responsible for the error, they both sign and date the form indicating that it has been reviewed. The completed report is placed in a file for risk management purposes.

Consistency is important to assist and support consumers to learn and grow. Individuality and flexibility is also important as consumers and team members alike have different personalities, which may change daily depending on a variety of factors. Pride does have policies and procedures that need to be followed; but the assistance provided needs to be individualized based on the individual's needs for that particular moment.

Pride encourages team members to meet with their Team Leader in person to share any recommendations they may have to improve services; concerns they may have with the way consumers are being treated; or other team member=s work performance. If the team member feels that the issue has not been resolved, he/she may contact the program administrator: for residential contact Shantell or Tony; for vocational contact Lori; and for any children's program contact Susan. Together, you can meet with the administrator and your supervisor to address the issue. If the team member believes the issue is still not resolved, you can meet with Val to request a quality assurance review.

We always appreciate hearing from team members when there is an issue or question.

The Life Skills program, at Basin Ave., received a donation from Mort and Shelly Bank in honor of Sol Welzelman’s 90th birthday. The money will be used to purchase an apple tree, that will be planted in the back yard at Basin Ave., for consumers to enjoy for years to come.

BUSINESS OFFICE

Schedule change: Due to year end closing, scheduling for year end maintenance, holidays and time restraints for computation of payroll, the timekeeper week of December 13, 2008 will be the payroll cutoff week for December 2008 payroll. This will make December 2008 a four week pay period and January 2009 will become a five week pay period. The timekeeper week ending December 13th is due in to payroll on December 18th by 12:00 pm (noon). The pay information will be available on December 31st.

Copies of Prides Summary Plan Documents are available on the Missouri Ave site network (G:\Forms\Documentation) for the following: Cafeteria Plan, Medical & Dental Plans and the 401k Plan.

If you do not have access to the Missouri Ave site network please contact the Business Office for a copy of these documents.

ACCOLADES
Thank you to all the team members for your patience while renovations are occurring at the 1200 Missouri Ave. building.

Thank you to Marcy Leintz who donated a bird “Daisy” to the Gracefully Aging program at Basin Ave.

Thanks to Jo Weisbeck and Darcy Severson for your assistance painting the new restrooms at Missouri Ave.

MILEAGE SHEETS

All mileage forms must be turned in to your supervisor by the 15th of the month. The forms are then due into the Business Office by the 20th. Any forms received after the 20th may not meet the payroll deadline and will then go on to your next month’s paycheck.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

The school at Pride Manchester is asking that everybody save their box tops from General Mills products. The box tops are then turned in and vouchers are received to be used to buy school supplies, go on field trips/activities, or whatever the children desire. There is a drop off spot at the Missouri office and at Pride Manchester.

FLU SHOTS

The flu vaccinations for staff will be November 4, 2008 from 4-6PM and November 12, 2008 from 9-11 AM at the Missouri Office building in the Lena Hanson Board Room. The cost is $10 per team member, so please bring that along when you come.

CARNIVAL TRAINING
The “No Bones About It” carnival training sessions were held October 21,27,29, 2008. The door prize winner was Janice Becker who received a pair of movie tickets. Many, many thanks to Kay Hanson, Mavis Huber, Susan Owens, Wendi Holz, Teresa Wetsch, Corey Welder, and Val Scalzo who led sessions, Jani Seifert, who handled registrations, and Deb Geiss, who planned and presented the snacks! Barb Murry, NDACF, also presented on ways we can impact the legislative session to increase service and salary dollars.

JOKE OF THE MONTH
I have CDO. It’s like OCD but with the letters in alphabetical order, like they’re supposed to be.

What did the airhead name her pet zebra?

A: Spot.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions the 555 voice mail box is once again up and running. The items we get will be addressed in the What’s Happening each month, or if you would like to leave your name, it will be addressed individually. Everybody, please feel free to take
